Art Assignments (Class and Homework):
Final Project Proposal Link: Please click here to go to the form. Surrealism Mini Project: Please see the attached assignment sheet here. You need to gather the information from the sheet and use up to three DWB pages to document it. We will then be creating Surrealist Artworks. Media is open. Subject Matter is open. You need to have part of your piece based off of observation (reality). Your piece should include thought about local, world or personal events, issues, ideas or beliefs. You will not have to create DWB Pages for your artwork. You will have to write a 100 word artist statement/synopsis of the meaning behind your artwork. All artwork will be hung on Wednesday, April 15. Please see the videos watched in class below: Surrealism P1 Surrealism P2 Sculpture/Character Tutorials: http://storyfix.com/the-three-dimensions-of-character-development Three Dimensions of Character https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdx0ysnbhDg Sculpting Techniques https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DpiCr_zBUnk Painting Your Clay (after it is dried) 10/27 and 10/28: Students completed 2nd acrylic paintings for media experimentation. Analyze Artist Instructions for Artist Inspiration Page Assignment You have an artist that you have chosen for your artist inspiration--now you need to select one of their works to analyze using the following instructions. You can see Mrs. Rudd's example DWB in class. Complete the following steps: 1. Description (It answers the question, "What do you see?") Pure description of the object without value judgments (Elements of Art) List what you can see in this artwork. Objects, figures, colors, shapes, objects, background, etc. Imagine you are describing it to a blind person. Do this in as much detail as possible and use art terms. 2. Analyze (It answers the question, "How did the artist do it?") Determining what the features suggest and deciding why the artist used such features to convey specific ideas. Composition (organization of shapes)
3: Interpretation (It answers the question, "What is the artist trying to say? What is going on in the picture")
Condense these questions into three paragraphs on one page, with your visuals. Not all questions may pertain to the piece of artwork you decide to react to. Use the DWB Guide to Success to help format your page. This should be included in the artist inspiration portion of the Mixed Media Portrait Project. 10/23 and 10/24: 1st Acrylic Still life completed in class. Homework: Please watch the following demonstration video: Link Here This is part one, there are multiple videos you CAN watch if you'd like to. Remember to bring an object from home that you'd like to paint for your second acrylic still life! There is an upcoming Project Check--you will need to have begun the first 5 pages in your DWB for the major project. Monthly Assignment is due this week as well. 10/20 and 10/21: Watercolor still life painting in class media experiment. 10/14/2014 Please review the following information and watch a MINIMUM of TWO of the tutorial videos before returning to class next week. Foreshortened Perspective Major Grade: There will be no DWB pages to complete with this assignment, but your monthly assignment will be due on the same day. Please ensure you are using the DWB Guide to Success to ensure that your Monthly Assignment is credible and academic in nature. Foreshortened Criteria: -You will need to personally photograph a body(or bodies) in foreshortened perspective. -You may not draw the entire figure, you must crop out part of the figure to engage the viewer through the use of an artist's point of view. (Controlling your composition). -This project will be completed in Prismacolor Pencils or Drawing Pencils. -You will need to draw on Bristol Board or Drawing Paper. -Minimum size 8x8", maximum size 12x14". -This is a photorealistic project. No stylistic changes are allowed. If you want your piece to contain it, photograph it. -You will turn in your photograph with your drawing. -Your composition should have a narrative of some sort that a viewer can discern (think emotions, setting, context). This narrative can be created with props, the posture, the point of view, etc. You must really plan your composition when taking photos. -You must select two elements of art and one principle to drive your concept, and justify how you used them on the back of your drawing. -You will have access to DSLRs in Class on Monday/Tuesday, and must capture your photo during class. Wednesday we will begin the actual drawings after a drawing demo with Mrs. Rudd. -This assignment is due on the final day you have Visual Art during 1st quarter. 9/10/2014 Students had the opportunity to work on hand drawings or conduct research using chromebooks.
